Other cultural, hiking or nature routes and itineraries have prevailed in the final vote.
The DO Rueda Wine Route has won the mention of Route of the Year 2014 after prevailing in a tight final vote for the rest of the finalist tourist routes in the contest organized by TURINEA. After three months of competition, this wine tourism proposal that runs through the heart of Castilla y León, has been chosen among the 340 route proposals by users of the reference portal for thematic tourism in Spain.
The DO Rueda Wine Route begins its journey at the beginning of this year. Today it covers the south of the province of Valladolid and includes the towns of Rueda, Medina del Campo, Commonwealth of Medina Lands, La Seca, Serrada, Tordesillas, Olmedo, Matapuzuelos, Pozaldez, Villaverde de Medina and Nava del Rey. Soon it will be extended to new territories, until it includes the geographical area corresponding to the Denomination of Origin Rueda, also including part of Ávila and Segovia. It currently has 66 members and is the third wine Denomination of Origin in the country behind Rioja and Ribera del Duero. It brings together both wineries and various tourist resources (accommodations, restaurants, activity companies...). Its gastronomic component and its Historical Heritage stand out.
Some of its wineries are authentic underground ethnographic jewels that have come down to our days from the Middle Ages.. They are intermingled with others where modernity and innovation are combined in equal parts. The Route is complemented by numerous proposals for hotels, restaurants, wine bars and specialized shops that, together, bring visitors closer to the scenic, environmental and cultural richness of a territory that is historically closely linked to the culture of wine.
