After achieving a double platinum medal at the Decanter World Wine Awards and 98 points in its tasting panel on the Verdejo variety, the historic wine De Alberto Dorado is now among the best wines of the year 2022 for the prestigious English publication after being tasted at blind by an exceptional jury.
De Alberto Dorado, DO Rueda, has been recognized as one of the 125 best wines of the year for Decanter. In this edition, only 13 Spanish wineries are among those selected, with Bodegas De Alberto (Hijos de Alberto Gutiérrez) being the only winery in Castilla y León to achieve this.
Nominated by Gabriela Colotto for the selection of "Wines of the Year 2022", the jury made up of Ronan Sayburn MS, Beth Willard, Andy Howard MW, Vicenzo Arnese, Pedro Ballesteros Torres MW and Amanda Barnes blindly tasted the wine, standing out in De Alberto Dorado “Wild walnut with interesting notes of caramel. A balanced Verdejo with a charming, clean and direct oxidative touch. Deep complexity with richness and great length. The finish is fresh and intense.”
This historic gold made using the traditional method of oxidative aging in demijohns exposed to the sun and soleras that are over 80 years old, is an example of the consistency and diversity of Verdejo wines with the Rueda Designation of Origin.
Recognition that comes to increase the impressive list of prizes and scores that De Alberto Dorado treasures, such as: Great Gold Medal of the Concours Mondial de Bruxelles, Great Zarcillo de Oro, Gold medals at the Texsom International Awards, Bacchus and Vinespaña... or the 98 points from Decanter himself, 95 in Guía Peñín or 92 for James Suckling.
Thus, a year of great successes for De Alberto comes to a close, in which the winery has not stopped obtaining awards in the different events in which it has been present and where, likewise, other of its wines were highlighted as the 96 points for From Alberto Dorado Dulce or the 92 for De Alberto Pálido also in Decanter; just a week ago, De Alberto Verdejo Ecológico won the bronze medal in the Japan Wine Challenge while, in October, the Selections Mondiales des Vins (Canada) contest recognized him with a brand new gold medal to join another silver in Brussels, appointment in which Monasterio de Palazuelos took another gold.
The winery itself has also been highlighted for its unique park of more than 7,000 demijohns with the award for the Best Wine Tourism Corner in Spain 2022 by ACEVIN and with a special mention for the Best Wine Tourism Project by Verema.
