De Alberto Dorado has been awarded as the Best Generous Wine of the DO Rueda by the prestigious journalist and Master of Wine, Tim Atkin, and the editor of Decanter and expert in Spanish wines Beth Willard.
This notable recognition comes after the visit to the DO Rueda last January, where he had the opportunity to taste and appreciate the wines from the various wineries that make up this designation of origin.
In their first report on the Rueda DO presented at Prowein, the most important fair in the sector worldwide held in Düsseldorf, they crown De Alberto Dorado within their Podium with the medal of excellence for best fortified wine of the year, highlighting it as “ a fabulous expression of Spanish wine history, and in particular DO Rueda” describing it as “wonderfully complex and an indulgent combination of caramel sweetness, caramelized fruit and fresh dates…. The wine is dry, but with an exquisite texture and intensity”
In addition to the 97 points awarded to De Alberto Dorado, which places it in the Top 3, the 95 points obtained by both De Alberto Fermentado en Barrica and De Alberto Pálido Verdejo stand out. Likewise, Atkin and Willard rate De Alberto Dorado Dulce and De Alberto 80 Anniversary limited edition Gran Rueda wine with another 94 points.
With these magnificent ratings and the recognition as the best fortified wine in the region in the Rueda Report 2024, to add to its already great record of achievements, Bodegas De Alberto consolidates with five of its wines among the top 25 scores of the Top 100, its great prestige as producer in the national and international wine market.
“It is a privilege to receive this great recognition from experts Tim Atkin and Beth Willard,” said Carmen San Martín, CEO of Bodegas De Alberto, for whom this achievement “is the result of our winery's constant commitment to quality and respect for tradition; “We aspire to excellence in each of our processes to offer our customers the best of our wines.”
Reference in fortified wines
Bodegas De Alberto is the benchmark in the production of fortified wines in Rueda, currently being the only producer of organically aged Pálido wine, as well as Dorado Dulce. With its Dorados, made under an exclusive oxidative aging method in demijohns exposed to the sun and subsequent aging in soleras, which preserve a mother wine of more than 80 years, the Gutiérrez family has not only uninterruptedly maintained this ancestral production method , generation after generation since the 40s, but has managed to achieve the highest distinctions in the sector such as the double Platinum medal at the Decanter World Wine Awards and 98 points on its tasting panel for the Verdejo variety, 95 points from Joaquín Hidalgo for Vinous, Master for The Drink Business, Great Gold Medal of the Brussels World Competition, Great Gold Bacchus or the Great Golden Tendril.
